Following the first public sighting of the Princess of Wales last week, the Royal mother of three has taken to social media to share a message with the world.
Move aside Kardashian clan, Kate’s back and she’s about to royally break the internet (again).
Despite capturing a glimpse of the Princess last week during a school run with her mother Carole Middleton, the public has not been given any updates on her health condition outside of official statements delivered by The Prince of Wales and the Palace.
But after months of vague messaging and outright silence from the Royals regarding the Princess of Wales’ health, fans have finally been offered a look into Kate Middleton’s elusive recovery period.
In honour of most of the world’s Mother’s Day celebrations yesterday, the royal couple’s Instagram page shared an adorable family portrait featuring the Princess and her three young children, paired with a message from the recovering royal herself.
The Princess’ Mother’s Day message
In the Instagram post, the Princess of Wales – who is still reportedly recovering from her mysterious abdominal surgical procedure – is pictured sitting down, while her three children crowd around her smiling.
“Thank you for your kind wishes and continued support over the last two months,” the caption reads. “Wishing everyone a Happy Mother’s Day – C.”
And while it’s unlikely anything gets posted to the Royal couple’s Instagram page without a thorough once-over from the Royal PR team, the direct message from the Princess included in the caption is a sweet touch, connecting the elusive Royal with the public after over two months of concerning silence.
A passionate photographer herself, the Wales’ social media pages are filled with intimate family portraits and photos the Princess has taken of their children to mark significant family events and birthdays.
The Prince of Wales, who is not pictured with the rest of the Wales family, is cited as the photographer.
Silencing the conspiracy theorists
When the Princess was spotted for the first time in two months last week, the international media had a field day. All around the world people were speculating whether or not it had been a staged paparazzi shot, orchestrated to put put the public’s mind at ease.
Given the Royal’s shocking health announcement back in February and her subsequent withdrawal from public appearances, it didn’t take long for the internet to start spreading wild rumours and conspiracy theories.
Alas, to say the internet went wild would be an understatement at best. The blurry image of the elusive Princess of Wales – shielded by large dark sunglasses – was plastered across every major new site worldwide (including ours!).
If the picture of the devoted mother of three joining the heir to the kingdom’s school run really was a set-up publicity stunt designed to silence the growing conspiracy theories about the Princess’ health, it arguably had the opposite effect. And now, the palace’s latest move on social media has royal devotees and disapprovers alike speaking up louder than ever.
The comments are already filled with bizarre claims the image is photoshopped or fake, with people pointing out minor lighting or quality discrepancies between the Princess' hands and clothing pieces, as well as the children’s ‘awkward’ positioning. But what kind of wriggly five-year-old and paparazzi-hounded preteens would look even remotely ‘natural’ taking a family portrait?
Whether this photo has been deliberately posted to redirect the narrative back into the hands of the Royal couple or is simply an innocent display of family affection and love to celebrate Mother’s Day, it seems like a promising step in the right direction for the Princess’ recovery.
