‘Hot and sweaty’: One thing that makes a man instantly more attractive to women

Jana Hocking has revealed one thing that immediately gives any man “an aura of power and sexual allure” – and women can’t resist it.

Dating Advice: Red flags to look out for on a first date

Last night, I was perusing Instagram when a video popped up of David Beckham saying the sexiest thing a man can say to a woman – “good girl”.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – those words get me hot under the collar.

But, alas, David Beckham ruined it. Yes, I never thought those words would escape my lips, but he gave me the ick.

You see, to be perfectly blunt, it was his voice. That high-pitched, nasal tone made it sound … ew.

And the fact that he was saying it to his dogs while feeding them treats for learning how to “sit”? Let’s just say I wasn’t impressed.

However, I maintain that if it were Tom Hardy delivering the same phrase in that deep, sexy voice of his, I’d be watching it on repeat – probably with a vibrating contraption in hand. I said what I said.

It got me thinking about the last guy I dated and why I was so drawn to him.

Backstory – not long ago, a friend suggested her male colleague could be a good match for me. She showed me a picture of him on Instagram and I thought he was cute, but when I met him in real life and he greeted me with a deep and sexy voice? I was hooked.

His voice had a baritone quality reminiscent of George Clooney or Sean Connery in their heyday. It also helped that he pronounced all his vowels and had a poetic flair to his polished vocabulary. There’s something ridiculously sexy about a man who has a deep voice and knows how to use it.

Back when I was a radio producer, we could pick which callers were sexy simply by the sound of their voice. Heck, it’s why sexy audiobooks are on the rise.

So when this man would leave me voice notes – definitely on purpose – I would get all hot and sweaty.

Just like a good set of boobies can turn a girl from a five to a 10, I honestly believe a deep voice can do the same for a man. I mean, look at Russell Crowe. He’s no Gladiator these days, but given the opportunity? Yes, yes I would.

Think about it. Who are you more drawn to in a room? The guy who speaks in a soft murmur, or the one whose voice commands attention? A deep voice creates a sense of safety and security. When he speaks, it feels like he knows what he’s talking about, and that’s undeniably attractive.

And as always, research backs me up. A recent study found that a deep voice gives a man an aura of power and sexual allure. Men with low, resonant voices are more likely to be perceived as attractive, masculine, respectable and dominant. Mmm … dominant. Okay, I’m getting off topic.

Research also shows that we women are often biologically wired to be attracted to deeper voices. Why? It all boils down to evolutionary signals. A low voice is often associated with higher levels of testosterone, signalling genetic fitness.

In other words, a deep voice can subconsciously convey that a man is a good mate. It’s like nature’s way of saying, “Hey, this guy could help me raise some healthy offspring”.

So, lads, if you want to get laid more, it’s simple – lower your voice.

Now, many of you may worry that you weren’t gifted with a naturally deep and sexy tone, but ask any actor, and they’ll tell you it’s something that can be practised and perfected.

I remember studying journalism at university, where we were taught to speak in a lower octave because newsrooms believed a deeper voice was taken more seriously by TV viewers. Many actresses also lower their voices when playing sexy characters – think Angelina Jolie in Mr & Mrs Smith.

It makes sense.

So next time you pick up the phone to call your lady friend or leave her a voice note, why not give it a go? Evoke your inner Morgan Freeman and drop an octave.

Seriously, you’ll be shocked by how it affects us.

You’re welcome.
