Aldi is known for its super low prices but the reaction to a new product that’s just hit shelves reveals a crazy truth about Australia.

Everyone’s favourite budget-friendly supermarket, Aldi, may have finally gone too far with this offering; actually, you might go as far as to say they’ve gone barking mad.

If there’s one thing we’ve all heard during the cost of living crisis, where inflation is at 5.6 per cent and tomatoes are costing more than avocadoes, it’s that where you shop counts.

Aussies are trying to save money, and plenty of them are heading to Aldi for a bargain and to escape the temptation of expensive big-name brands.

There’s just one big problem.

Aldi offers weekly Special Buys and introduces exclusive items to customers that are available but only until they sell out.

Shopping at Aldi is a great game plan if you have the willpower to ignore Aldi’s tempting middle section, which offers the exact opposite of everyday essentials.

You can purchase everything from tents for that camping trip you absolutely aren’t going to go on, to affordable skiwear for that ski trip you can’t afford to take in the middle of a financial crisis.

Aldi has left shoppers shocked and delighted with their latest offering of dog vacuums.

It is officially called a Pet Grooming Vacuum, because why brush your dog when you can try and suck up all their fur?

The tagline is genius.

“Hoover up all that loose fur directly from the ball of the fur itself.”

It will set you back $129, and to put that in perspective, according to Finder, the average household grocery budget in Australia is between $161-$148.

People in NSW spend the most on groceries at $161, and people in Tasmania have the lowest average weekly cost at $148.

So yes, buying yourself a dog grooming vacuum probably will cut slightly into your weekly grocery budget – no matter what part of Australia you reside in.

When Aldi posted the dog grooming tool onto Facebook, the post quickly went viral with over 3000 comments.

Interestingly shoppers weren’t laughing at the concept of a dog grooming vacuum or acting horrified at the idea of spending some serious coin on something that isn’t essential.

Instead they were tagging each other and writing the word “need”.

“We need one,” someone commented.

“Imagine trying to get this close enough to any of our dogs,” someone wrote.

“My dog would never talk to me again if I came at him with this,” a shopper joked.

“This looks fun,” another wrote.

So, before you step into Aldi this week with the purpose of spending money, ask yourself this.

“Can I resist buying a dog vacuum?” if the answer is no, well, you should beeline for Coles or Woolworths.
