Ominous theory behind X left on door in Queensland

An Aussie is dumbfounded by a symbol left on the front door of his home as people share their theories on what it could mean.

A mysterious symbol left on a house in Queensland has left one local scratching his head as people share their theories about what it might mean.

The symbol – an X seemingly made out of leaves – was stuck on to the front door of a Slacks Creek home yesterday.

Reddit user Alex Munroe shared a picture of the X on Saturday, asking if anyone knew what it meant.

He said someone had left if on the door in the Logan suburb while he was out during the morning.

“Neighbours didn’t see anything, and most likely it’s just some kids messing around, but wanted to ask if anyone else has come across something similar or heard of an occurrence like this,” he asked.

“Wondering what we might need to be planning for.”

Other users shared their theories about the symbol, ranging from it being a harmless message from friends to robbers canvassing a target.

“At a guess I’d say it is a burglar, but not in the way people think,” one said.

“They’re marking a house to see if you remove it. If it’s not removed, they’ll know that the house the occupants are away.

“It’s easy to see from the street.”

Mr Munroe said he would “bust out the marbles and paintcans” in reference to the classic 90s film Home Alone.

Others said would-be robbers used similar tactics to scope out homes such as turning off the water main or moving bins to see if residents notice.

Some of the theories were less concerning, with some saying it could have been bored kids or a relative letting them know they visited.

“Old neighbourhood with Italians Greeks or similar?” one user asked.

“This was an old way of saying that you stopped by your house. If you recently moved in the area someone might’ve stopped by for the old residents.”

Another had the same theory, saying their grandparents used to do something similar.

“I never quite understood WHY, because leaving a flower on someone’s door doesn’t tell them WHO visited,” they wrote.

Others joked it might be an “Amish tweet” or a sign of impending doom.

“Probably just demons or something. Cheeky cult or two, maybe a human sacrifice – no big deal.”
