ONE OF Australia’s newest aircraft — the EA-18G Growler — has made its Pitch Black debut.

The plane may look like a Hornet but its purpose is completely different.

The Growler, unlike any other aircraft, is equipped with technology that can intercept, jam and disrupt radio frequencies and communications.

Air Force Group Captain of O/C 82 wing Rob Denney said it was great to be able to include three Growlers in Exercise Pitch Black.

“By bringing them onto Exercise Pitch Black we’ve had a really good opportunity to exercise our deployed operations for the Growler,” he said.

The plane is normally based at RAAF Base Amberley and is able to work with all three arms of the Defence force.

Group Captain Denney said it was great to be able to work with the 15 other nations participating in the exercise.
