Tucking into a gourmet meal from a food truck while sitting at the beach is synonymous with the Dry Season.

You can get almost any meal you want from a food truck, without having to dress up or wait, like you typically would at traditional food venues.

Some food truck vendors took a break over The Wet while others – who worked through the rainy wet season are gearing up for the busy time of year.

You can get a range of foods including woodfired pizza, loaded potatoes, gourmet European inspired meals, fish and chips and coffee and brunch.

The opportunities to tuck into new and exciting foods are endless.

The Box Jellyfish Cafe

The weekend cafe is known for their bacon and egg sandwiches.

They also dish up granola bowls and smoothies as well as the morning staple – coffee.

They set up on Saturday and Sunday from 7.30am to 2pm at the Chapman Rd Carpark on the Nightcliff Foreshore.

The Box Jellyfish is due to reopen sometime towards the end of May.

Cucina Sotto Le Stelle

The man behind Darwin’s mobile woodfired pizza, Benjamin Matthews, has been dishing up pizza and pasta from the Chapman Rd Carpark on the Nightcliff Foreshore for the past five years.

His pizzas are simple and traditional with no need for fancy extras, while his pastas change weekly. Over the past four years he has served up around 400 different types of pasta.

He runs Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 5pm to 9pm with the pasta side of he business set to begin in May.

Delicately-crafted modern Australian cuisine is dished out of this retro van with an emphasis on local produce.

After a short break over the Wet the owners, Martin Wildman and Kelly Ready are back and ready to tickle your tastebuds.

What’s even better is they cater for almost all food restrictions and allergies with the couple creating a new menu each week with a guaranteed, vegan, vegetarian, fish and meat dish.

Catch them in the vintage van at Nightcliff Jetty from 5pm to 9pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, as well as Malak Markets.

The Potato Man

Perhaps Darwin’s oldest running food truck, The Potato Man is one place to indulge in.

Your wildest potato dreams can come true in the little green truck with owners Shelly Wong and James Peter dishing up everything from bolognese, pulled pork, pineapple, sour cream and cheese to top your spud with.

Closed over January and February, the food truck is back in time for the Dry and can be found on Sunday’s from 5pm to 8pm at Nightcliff pool.

Ken’s Crepes and Ken’s Crepes Mindil

The owners may be different but the crepes are the same delicious morsels you recognise from the markets.

Any craving you may have can be settled with the crepe business offering up both sweet and savoury crepes.

You can indulge in them on Friday and Wednesday from 5pm to 8.30pm at the Windsurfers Corner on the Nightcliff Foreshore.

They are due to open sometime during April.

The Salty Plum Cafe

A morning walk around East Point is all the more sweeter with Salty Plum Cafe expected to reopen sometime in April.

The cafe is now in its third year and serves up coffee, smoothies and sangas.

They are also looking to start operating at night with steak sandwiches, fish and chips and tacos on the menu.

The cafe is at East Point Reserve Friday to Sunday 7am to 2pm.

Jay’s Coffee Bar

The coffee bar has been in operation for the last nine years and dishes up coffee beverages, ice-cream and sweet treats.

What’s even better is the coffee you buy has been locally roasted by Jeno (Jay) Hankoczi himself.

The van operates all year round at the Nightcliff Jetty and at the Nightcliff Markets.

You can catch Jay on a Saturday from 8am to 7pm, Sunday morning at the Nightcliff Market and the afternoon from 3pm to 7.30pm at the Jetty.

He is also at the Jetty on public holidays from 8am to 7pm.

<b>Haensel und Gretel</b>

Haensel und Gretel

Kamala and Ben Ley are scientists by day and chefs by night. They serve up traditional German and Austrian dishes from their food van at the Chapman Rd carpark on the Nightcliff Foreshore each Tuesday from 5pm to 8pm.

The German couple began operating the food van at the start of the last Dry season. They closed during the Wet season to renovate the trailer and create more dishes.

They dish up traditional meals such as Viennese schnitzel, German bratwurst and maultaschen which is a dough filled with minced meat and herbs and served in a soup.
