Gate crasher slithers into Top End wedding

A Top End wedding was crashed by a python, putting to shame anything the groom could possibly offer later in the night.

CATS and dogs can occasionally make an appearance at weddings but only in the Top End could a python make a special appearance.

The Bleisner wedding at the Darwin Ski Club on the weekend had just that as a python found itself tangled among the bridal party’s table.

Bride Bek Bleisner said guests had just stepped up for a short break before speeches when her dad and uncle came across the wedding crasher.

“They’ve pulled it up from out of the table and instantly went ‘oh my god that is so cool’,” she said.

“I just wanted to touch it but my dad suggested I hold it and get a photo.”

Rather than being ejected from the wedding, the python made itself a feature of the night, posing for many photos for guests including the groom Wade Bleisner, who overcame his fear of snakes before it was released back into the scrub.

“People were calling ‘snake, snake’ and my sister thought we were calling for the cake, there was a lot of commotion,” she said.

“Everyone was just like ‘I can’t believe that just happened’. We went back and enjoyed the speeches and the rest of the wedding as planned.

“We’re still in a state of disbelief … it’s made the night so memorable and I don’t think any of the guests will ever forget it.”
