A Perth butcher has courted controversy with a cheeky social media post in which it said it was sourcing one of its products “straight from the petting farm”.
Swansea Street Family Butcher, located in East Victoria, this week used Facebook to promote that it had a limited stock of baby goat.
“Ever been at a petting farm and wondered what these animals your (sic) feeding taste like?,” the post said.
“Well now your chance, straight from the petting farm into our back door, bottle-fed baby goats all around 10kg only $15kg.
“While stocks last.
“See if love and endless cuddles does make your food taste better.”
The post ruffled a few feathers online with one person describing it as a “disgusting way to advertise”.
Others said it was “too much” and a “sick way to advertise meat”.
In response, the store owners restricted comments to the post to people who had followed the page for more than 24 hours.
However the post was also met with people praising the butcher for being transparent about where they sourced their meat.
“If you can’t deal with recognising your meat was once an animal, don’t eat meat. Simple. If you eat it, respect it,” one person said.
Others described it as “marketing genius”, the “best advertisement” they’d seen on Facebook, with another saying “yum I’ll grab two for the spit”.
