When a woman was invited to her colleague’s hen do after knowing her for just three months, she keenly went along despite knowing none of the other guests.
However, upon arriving at the restaurant, she was shocked to discover that she, along with three other women, had been seated away from the main party and on the other side of the restaurant in the corner.
After the drama was captured in a six-second video and posted to TikTok, it amassed over 2.2 million views.
The caption read: “POV: You get invited to a hen do only to be sat on the other side of the restaurant in the corner”.
The reaction was swift, with commenters quick to express their disbelief at the situation.
“No, but this is actually so bad! Why were you invited to be put in a corner?” asked one user.
Another remarked: “The absolute attitude, cockiness and passive aggressiveness from whoever (the bride) is tells me you had a lucky escape leaving! It’s giving childish mean girl vibes and was definitely deliberate”.
“I don't understand how people are okay doing this to their guests,” expressed someone else.
Others theorised why this might have happened, with some suggesting it was to help with the bill.
“Girl, you were invited to spread the cost. I had this happen to me too,” one person replied, while another agreed: “Yeah you were invited to bring the cost down …”
Others claimed she was probably invited as a “rent a crowd” and “a table filler” to make the bride seem more popular.
The bride’s friends and family apparently defended the seating decision in now-deleted replies, arguing that there wasn’t enough space in the restaurant to accommodate all 33 guests at a single table.
But that didn’t sit well with viewers, who asked them: “Why book there then?”
The original poster also hit back at these excuses, claiming that the event was “booked weeks in advance” and she saw the seating plan, which was specifically designed to have a smaller group sat in the corner.
“There was definitely space,” she alleged.
The invitee also claimed the situation was made worse by the fact that she was sat at a table with three strangers, and the organiser didn’t even introduce them to one another.
“It was very awkward from the get-go,” she said in a follow-up story time video. “We weren’t acknowledged at all”.
She said she ended up leaving the event early because when the bride finally approached her, it felt “awkward” and “uncomfortable”.
She also claimed there was an overall lack of warmth from everyone at the event, and one of the bride’s friends even rolled her eyes at her when she was being introduced.
