McDonald's launches new outlet without burgers

Aussies doing their usual Macca’s runs have been pulling into carparks this week only to do a double-take because the iconic golden arches aren’t so golden anymore.

Across TikTok and Instagram, videos of bright green McDonald’s logos have gone viral, as confused Aussies have wondered whether the fast-food chain has been hacked, rebranded, or suffered some kind of technical malfunction.

“Why is it green?” one TikToker asked, zooming in on the strange-looking ‘M’ sign as they drove by.

“What the hell? Is it Christmas themed? I’ve never seen a green McDonald’s,” someone else pointed out after spotting anothe

Others speculated it could be an “eco-friendly vibe,” a “Shrek takeover,” something for St Patrick’s Day, or a promotion for the new Wicked movie.

“It’s the new vegan McDonald’s,” another person joked.

However, the brand has confirmed that the unusual makeover is actually the work of The Grinch, who’s apparently been spreading his festive chaos Down Under since November 19.

“Looks like The Grinch has taken his festive chaos to the next level – sneakily turning the Golden Arches green,” a McDonald’s spokesperson said.

“They’ll stay that way for a short time before returning to their usual gold once he’s finished his summer sabotage at Macca’s.”

The temporary arches mark the launch of themed menu items like the Grinch meal and the Grinch Happy Meal.

The Grinch Meal offers a choice of Big Mac, chicken Big Mac, or 10-piece chicken McNuggets, served with fries and a drink such as frozen Fanta lemon topped with green apple popping pearls that add a green tint and popping texture.

Each order includes one of four collectable sand globes depicting McDonald’s characters with items “stolen” by The Grinch, like Hamburglar’s burger or Grimace’s shake.

The Grinch Happy Meal for kids features a cheeseburger, hamburger, crispy chicken snack wrap, or six-piece chicken McNuggets, paired with small fries or apple slices and a small drink. It comes with one of 12 Grinch-themed toys, including figures like Max Star and Grinch Snowball.

A separate side combo that no one saw coming pairs chicken McWings with hotcake syrup, blending savoury and sweet.
