A DARWIN woman was left bloodied and bruised after she was smacked in the head by a fishing lure at a city restaurant.

Woolner resident Helen Bull said she was sitting on the balcony of The Jetty Restaurant at Stokes Hill Wharf about 8pm on Monday night with her brother when some kids were throwing some lures.

“We made a bit of a passing joke that they better not start throwing them this way,” she said.
“Then the next thing you know I saw this glint coming towards me and then felt a smack about an inch and a half above my eye.

“I felt like someone had shot me in the head. It threw me back. It was a really hard bang.

“I put my hands up to my face and when I pulled my hands down blood was pouring from my head and pouring down my neck and top.

“It is a bit blurry for me and hard to remember because I was a bit dazed and confused.

“There was a lot of blood there.

“Everyone from my table got up and put napkins around my head.

LURED BY COLLECTING OBSESSION

Ms Bull said she was not hooked, just smacked and some army medics at the next table treated her and she went off to the hospital.

She said she waited in the emergency department of Royal Darwin Hospital for two hours but was told it would be another five hours wait so she went home.

MAN WAITS TWO DAYS FOR HOSPITAL BED

RDH general manager Louise Oriti said there were peaks and troughs in demand and said anyone who was not happy with the treatment could contact the hospital.

Ms Bull said when she went to the doctor the next day she said he told her the medics had done such a good job she did not need stitches.

“I have had so many phone calls from people today,” she said.

“They are all saying that I was the catch of the day. A big shout out to the medics, thanks.

“I guess it should be noted that the area was a not fishing area and it is for this reason.”
