On the long weekend I decided to go and check out the Daly with good mate Daniel Harris.

Arriving there on Saturday evening we caught up with Stew from the Daly River Barra resort who gave us a rundown on how the river was fishing.

It certainly looked the goods the following morning, with the main river flowing fairly hard and most of the creeks pumping tannin water.

Travelling to Moon Billabong the river looked good but there was a real lack of bait and most anglers we spoke to hadn’t seen much action.

In the afternoon we parked up in the shade at a great-looking eddy and having marked a few fish there earlier decided to put in a solid casting session.

After trying a variety of both soft and hard bodies I tied on a gold Killalure 2 Deadly and was immediately rewarded with a surface take.

The fish powered out into the main channel and headed downstream with the drag singing, and it took some fancy footwork before it was lip-gripped and cradled into the boat for release.

A few more big hits and several dropped fish was a great way to finish off the afternoon session, and it was luxury sleeping in the airconditioned donga instead of roughing it overnight in the boat.
