For those fortunate enough to have last weekend off, the weather was perfect and the rewards spectacular!

On Saturday Peter “Z Man” Zeroni ventured offshore in “The ‘Dic” and was greeted by a glassed out ocean, and enjoyed the spectacle of being flanked by a pod of false killer whales.

He’s a talented angler, and put himself and the crew onto a red-hot bite of grey mackerel, along with the mandatory brassy trevally. Jig losses were high due to snip offs, and savage sharkings of hooked fish were frequent.

Sore arms, burnt drags and empty tackle boxes didn’t put the Z Man off returning to do battle the next day, this time trying some new ground.

He found the Spaniards, and some sizable ones too.

Double hook ups were the norm, and I was privy to the sounder screen shot which showed big fish stacked up everywhere!

He released a lot of fish, bringing a few home for a feed and donating a few to the men in brown overcoats.

Tides this weekend are fantastic for getting offshore to the Vernons or Dundee, and good reports continue to flow in from the Kakadu billabongs for those prepared to put in a long drive.

Tight lines and catch ya on the water.
