As the water temps heat up, so does the fishing.

Guide extraordinaire and all-round champion bloke Duane Trouche recently had a corker of a day trip to Darwin Harbour with several clients on board.

Targeting the deeper water and trolling small, tight actioned lures he got into a brace of solid fish in the 80s, before one of the boys hooked and landed the 101cm fish pictured.

Metre fish don’t come easily, especially in the harbour, and it’s a tribute to Duane’s skill and expertise putting relatively inexperienced anglers on to fish of this calibre only a stone’s throw from our CBD.

I personally rate Duane as one of the most talented guides in Northern Australia, who has pioneered techniques such as large soft plastics and speed trolling that we take for granted nowadays.

He still has a few spots left this build-up so give him a buzz on 0419 931 677 to book a trip.

This weekend’s tides will be perfect for some land-based fishing around Cahill’s crossing and of course Shady Camp, which is now open year round to fishing.

D.N.A. bait busters and Yum Money minnows, lightly weighted, all work well.

Fish the last of the incoming as the tide pushes up the system. Tight lines and catch ya on the water
