No shortage of metre-plus monsters at Shady

Plans to hit the South quickly went out the window after I received a few late-night texts from a good mate: there’s big girls at Shady, and lots of them!

Plans to hit the South quickly went out the window after I received a few late-night texts from a good mate: there’s big girls at Shady, and lots of them!

Fishing our way down to the mouth things were looking decidedly quiet.

And there were about 15 boats trolling the flats at the entrance in milky brown water; hardly inspiring.

All that changed the instant the tide turned and my gold 2Deadly got slammed way out the back: 104cm fish.

That was the start of what would unfold to be an epic day.

Soon other boats started hooking up, and as the tide filled in the bite got hotter and hotter. As I was fighting another metre-plus fish I looked around and nearly every other boat was hooked up, posing for a photo with a big Barra or releasing one boat-side.

Lure of the day was the new eight-foot Killalure Needlenose designed by Lance Butler.

It has a tight, rolling action and is well suited to speed trolling, and sits right at the perfect depth.

It also has been designed by Lance to handle the biggest barra so when you hook that fish of a lifetime you’re sure it’s going to stay connected.

I reckon this lure will be an absolute weapon this run off, so make sure you’ve got a few.

Tight lines and catch ya on the water.
