The NT News understands that the boat, a Quintrex powered by a 150hp Yamaha outboard, was being driven in the dark sometime on Friday night when the driver crashed into the steep, rocky bank at speed.

The driver and passengers suffered injuries in the collision, including some broken ribs and facial injuries. It is unclear how serious the injuries were but they were able to make their way to hospital for treatment.

Such was the force of the impact that the boat’s steering wheel was broken when the driver slammed into it.

The boat remains on the bank where the accident occurred, with the most recent high tide peaking over the rear transom.
