A local fisherman has struck gold yet again, reeling in his third $10,000 fish overall, and also nabbing the 13th prize winning fish of the latest season – which started just under a month ago.

George Voukolus has caught the 13th $10k value prize fish in the Million Dollar Fish Season 10 comp.

George Voukolus was fishing at Browns Creek and considering heading to the crossing after an average experience when he decided to stop by Bamboo.

An hour later he was reeling in a 68cm red tagged barra, worth $10k.

This catch added to his impressive personal tally – marking the third time Mr Voukolus had won the $10k prize in the Million Dollar Fish competition.

George Voukolus has caught the 13th prize fish of Million Dollar Fish Season 10.

The Daly River is Mr Voukolus’ lucky fishing grounds, with all his winning barramundi caught just 140km south of Darwin.

His success began in season two when he landed his first red-tagged $10k fish — a 64cm barra.

He followed it up with a 70cm winner in season three.

Mr Voukolus said he was “happy as chappy” with his latest win.

“This is the second one from Bamboo. I’ve been doing it [fishing] all my life now; 54 years fishing for barra,” he said.

“I’m born and bred here, I love it.”

There are now 86 red-tagged $10k fish and 10 fish with a million-dollar tag left for season 10.

NT Major Events Company Acting chief executive Trevor Cox said it was unbelievable result.

“It is lucky 13 for so many winning anglers already, and to think we are only 24 days into season 10,” he said.

“George’s achievement of reeling in three $10,000 red-tagged barras in Australia’s richest fishing competition is truly remarkable.
