I RECEIVE many inquiries like this one: Could you please advise me on some relatively safe land-based spots that I could fish with my children?

My friend Carlo “Chonga” Esmaquel uses Google Maps to find good land-based spots.

Location: Lee Point Rocks

Tide: Outgoing (very safe); incoming tide can be dangerous for beginners, particularly on the big tides.

Lee Point Rocks are on a very large and beautiful sandy beach.

They are fairly easy to access and there is good visibility.

They offer a variety of good spots to fish for different species.

Google Maps is an excellent tool for land-based anglers.

It makes it easier to identify spots that may hold fish at different stages of the tide.

Chonga’s very unique techniques could also help you with your land-based fishing in the dry season.

He uses light gear to maximise the fun factor and increase his catch. It also allows longer casts with small lures.

We recommend the following:

Ultra light spinning rod 4-8LB

#1000-#2500 spinning reel in size

Ultra light line system 4-14LB (Chonga used 4lb FIRELINE)

Very effective small lures
