LOCAL daredevils the Mad Hueys crew are bracing for a backlash as they unleash their latest stunt online.

Adrenalin junkies, twins Dean and Shaun Harrington, became global sensations when Dean convinced his brother to go "cage-diving" in a $50 birdcage, ending in a near miss with a tiger shark.

The Coolangatta duo have found fame online and even have a reality TV show in the works, but the stuntmen haven't upgraded their equipment for their latest shocker - the "b-grade bungee".

New "The Mad Hueys" video showing them bungy jumping on leg ropes on the Minjungbal Drive bridge over the Tweed River.

The video shows 27-year-old Dean being strapped by the ankles to Boyds Bay Bridge at Tweed Heads, with 3m bodyboard leg ropes attached to each leg.

Footage captured by the amateur stunt crew then sees the first-time bungee jumper launch over the structure's rails - clearly marked with a no jumping sign - to swing upside down back and forth almost hitting the underside of the bridge.

Shaun told the Bulletin the whole crew, including the dangling daredevil, were "cracking up" laughing as he swung over the Tweed River "for a good five minutes".

After leaving his brother hanging for a while, Shaun can be seen to sever the leg ropes, leaving Dean to plunge headfirst into the water.

"He got me with that shark stunt, so I had to think of something to get him back," he said.

"He pulled it off pretty good too - the leggies didn't snap or anything."

The pair acknowledged the stunt was dangerous and that they ignored warning signs about shallow water and passing boats, but Dean, who is scared of heights, sustained only a "decent bruise" across the back of one leg caused by one of the leg ropes snapping back after it had been cut.

"Everyone was just watching and loving it and nothing went wrong," Shaun said.

"People will probably say we're idiots or whatever, but since the shark stunt I think people are expecting more crazy stuff from us."
