A BLUEWATER bonanza is just around the corner

The Daly River fired well over the Easter long weekend, with plenty of meteries, including a 133cm barra being caught.

Personally my thoughts are now turning to the wide blue waters off our coast, and so far the reports have been very promising.

Pelagic mayhem with big balls of fish working wide of Dundee have been encountered by plenty of anglers, with longtail, grey mackerel, spaniards and queenies all on offer.

A few sails have been seen and caught, but they’re yet to show up in big numbers.

It surprises me how few anglers get into these exciting fish, and I still feel that up here in the Top End very little is known about their movements and habits.

I suspect we have a world class bill fishery right here on our doorstep, and there’s definitely a few hard core fishos doing their best to get the scene wired.

At this time of year the more settled weather patterns are more conducive to getting offshore, and sailfish and small black marlin are the prime targets.

Trolling a spread of bird teasers and hookless skirts and switch-baiting raised fish has got to be one of the most exhilarating forms of fishing.

Catch ya on the water.
