THE crocodile barra buffet at a Mourilyan fish farm in Far North Queensland is officially closed.

Four big crocs were removed from Pejo Enterprises this month, after they were found in barramundi ponds.

Environment and Heritage Protection officers attended the farm, capturing a 3.1m crocodile, two 2.5m crocodiles and a juvenile crocodile.

The crocodiles had moved into ponds at the fish farm to gain access to the abundant supply of barramundi as food.

Owner of Pejo Enterprises, Marty Phillips, said the risk to their employees had prompted them to put up a fence to keep the reptiles out.

“There has never been a accident here, but it could happen, so we have fenced off the creek side,” he said.

“There are still a few small ones on the farm, but this will hopefully prevent anymore from getting in.”

This removal follows the removal of a large croc from the farm a month ago.

While the odd croc in the farm wasn’t uncommon, the numbers are rising.

“There’s always been the odd one here and there, but there are definitely more than before,” Mr Phillips said.

The crocs enjoyed a hearty meal, leaving very full.

“No croc ever leaves here skinny,” Mr Phillips said.

The crocodiles were targeted for removal as they posed a threat to the safety of farm staff working in and around the ponds.

The animals have been placed in a local crocodile farm where they will contribute to the breeding program.

Fish farm operators have been asked to contact EHP if any other crocodiles of concern appear in the ponds.
