It’s taken more than 30 years, but work colleague Graham Schultz has finally joined the metre barra club!
Luckily for Graham, his son Trevor took him barra fishing on Father’s Day.
They decided to travel a fair way before settling on a small creek they had never fished before.
When they arrived at the creek they noticed that the water clarity was sensational as they entered the mouth.
Almost straight away Trev picked up some good arches on the sounder down deep and so they decided to troll some deep diving lures.
Classic barra 15+ and Killalure river rats were the lures of choice.
The lads worked a deep hole near the mouth of the creek on the incoming tide and were soon rewarded with some nice fish.
Threadfin salmon were prevalent along with a couple of nice barra as well.
As the tide pushed in they started to hit fish on every troll and Trev noticed some larger fish starting to move into the creek on his sounder.
Not long after Graham received a great strike and was soon fighting a good fish.
The big barra finally exited the water and they both knew straight away it was around the metre mark.
Graham expertly fought the fish under pressure and Trev netted it for him to the sounds of great joy.
The big barra measured 105cm on the brag mat and was soon released after a couple of quick pics.
Graham had become a member of the metre barra club after years of trying and what better way to do it than on Father’s Day.
Good onya Graham and well done!
