New recreational fishing controls are now in place in the NT.

The changes were announced in February to rebuild “at risk” reef fish stocks.

The changes include new possession, size and vessel limits as well as the introduction of temporary reef fish protection areas.

The new fishing controls are now available on online at fisheries.nt.gov.au

Updated copies of the possession limit flyers, booklets and measuring stickers are currently being distributed to tackle stores, tourist information centres and popular fishing destinations.

If you are planning on a trip to the Fred’s Pass Show this weekend the Department of Primary Industry and Fisheries will have a stall set up to provide you with the updated information and answer any questions you may have.

Replacement of the out-of-date boat ramp signs is under way and will be an ongoing process over the next few months.

Outdated signage will be removed leaving some ramps without signs until the new signs can be erected, so make sure you know your limits before heading out.

Another exciting development is the recreational fishing app NT Fishing Mate for your smartphone. This app is in the final stages of development and will be available for download shortly.

NT Fishing Mate will provide a quick and simple way to access fishing rules and information. It will notify you when you are approaching management zones, areas with special rules or restricted zones.

Search for information from the quick links on the home page or use the slide-out menu or search table to look for specific information.
