With yet another high in the bight arriving just in time for the weekend, it looks like fishing options in the saltwater will be non-existent.

With some of Kakadu’s better billabongs being opened recently to the public if you’re keen to get out on the water these would be your best option.

I fished 2 Mile Hole recently with my good friend Chardy.

We had an absolute ball hooking big numbers of saratoga using weedless rigged soft plastic Bog Frogs cast into heavy cover. These things are absolutely deadly, and with their snag-proof qualities they’re great for inexperienced anglers and visiting friends.

We got some barra as well, with suspending deep divers doing the damage.

There are a lot of juvenile barra at Shady Fresh, but if you really must go there and fish for them please use barbless single hook soft plastics and treat the fish with the utmost care: they are our future barra stock for the Mary River system and are a finite resource.

They’re landlocked until the wet sets them free next year and I can’t help but feel sorry for these poor little barra that are stuck there getting hammered for the next 6 months.

Fish for the future, catch ya on the water.
