Million Dollar Fish is reeling in the festive season with 12 days of Fishmas surprises starting from Friday, December 1, including chances to win tourism experiences, food and wine vouchers and fishing gear.
To kick off the festivities, one of the $10,000 barra has had its worth bumped up to $1 million, now giving fishos 12 chances at the big prize this Christmas along with the 93 $10,000 barra still out there.
Chief Minister and Minister for Major Events Natasha Fyles said Fishmas festivities would make this Christmas extra special.
“December is the time for giving and Million Dollar Fish is no exception,” she said.
“Fishmas is set to deliver surprises that will make someone’s Christmas extra special, and today’s surprise is one we’re sure everyone is going to love.”
This season, supported by Sportsbet, has already seen six anglers reel in a $10,000 barra with Wagait Beach fisho Andrew Russell winning $20,000 during the Double the Dough initiative.
Unlike the previous eight seasons, someone is guaranteed to win a million dollars this year with red-tagged barra released across Top End waterways in Darwin, Kakadu, Tiwi Islands, Katherine and Arnhem Land regions.
Sportsbet NT Operations and Partnerships manager Thijs Bors was excited to see someone snag the top prize this season.
“Million Dollar Fish is the greatest fishing competition in Australia and, with the million guaranteed to go off this season, we can’t wait to change someone’s life simply through fishing,” he said.
To claim any prizes this season, anglers must be registered for Season 9 which runs until 31 March 2024.
