A colder than usual Timor Sea is the reason behind our lack of monsoonal weather, so we may be lucky enough to sneak in a few last trips before the Wet sets in for good. I recently enjoyed a day in one of our coastal creek systems.
It was way too hot to put the canopy down so we enjoyed a relaxing day trolling 8-foot barra baits through deep, snaggy bends, ending up with around 25 barra for the day, plus a surprise juvenile Queensland groper and a solid jew that gave me hell in the narrow waterway. The 8-foot barra baits are one of my all-time favourite trolling lures, and their tight action and ability to crawl through submerged timber make them perfect for the task.
I recently had a C channel trailer made at Promotor trailers and the boys have done a great job making it as bulletproof as possible for extended remote trips next year. Give the boys a ring on 8947 0088 if you’re chasing a custom trailer.
Tides this weekend are perfect for chasing big breeding barra. Try trolling Leaders Creek or the Wiltshire’s at the mouth of the Adelaide. Sampan Creek and the Wildman will also produce good fish if conditions are calm.
