Although not caught in the good ol’ Territory, this epic capture of a monster barra surely rates a mention.

The angler Christine Kiehne, fishing with guide Gavin New of Carpentaria Barra Charters was working a soft plastic vibe in a small creek in Karumba when her lure was absolutely belted.

Incredibly she was using only 10lb Fins braid.

A testament to the strength of this amazing braid it held together for a marathon battle of more than an hour that took her up and down the length of the creek, often only inches away from heavy snag piles.

Christine kept a cool head, and it took all three anglers on board to cradle the fish into the boat and onto the brag mat.

After a few quick photos it was quickly returned to the water and it swam away strongly.

Truly a fish of a lifetime, and the biggest barra guide Gavin had seen in his career.

This week’s neap tides should be great for bluewater fishing if the wind stays away, and there should be some great sight fishing on the flats as we drift into dry season.

Catch ya on the water.
