Well I don’t know about you, but I’m getting excited!

Glassy, still mornings, warm afternoons and rising water temperatures all mean one thing: the build-up is here!

The mating instinct of the big girls will soon see metre-plus slabs of barra moving into our coastal creeks and major river systems in anticipation of finding a mate.

Do I feel guilty interrupting this fishy foreplay? Not one bit – in fact I’ve already started sorting my trays of big bombers, barra baits and soft plastics. Bring it on!

The fishing has already started to heat up with the weather, with the blue water turning it on wide of Dundee with some great bottom fishing, and some sails and marlin caught wide of Darwin as well.

I heard whispers of a metery caught at Leaders Creek, and there’s been a heap of rats on the flats in Darwin Harbour.

I recently spent an afternoon locally chasing a few fish with good mates Michael VanDeGraaf and Braden Menzies.

After a slow start we found a few good threadies at a small creek mouth and got stuck into a few. Working Spanyid vibes deep and slow worked well, as did deep diving barra baits. This weekend’s tides are perfect for the harbour, fish Zerek prawns and 10g Spanyid Vibes around the flats, rock bars and snake drains.

Good luck and catch ya on the water.
