Bombers go ballistic in coastal creek carnage
I FINALLY managed a few consecutive days away from work – so loaded up the boat, made a few quick calls and headed off for two days of adventure.

Fishing coastal creeks we managed around 25 barra up to 85cm, dropping a few good fish over the magic metre mark.
At one stage we all had on green bombers, and with the hit rate we were getting it was pretty hard to convince anyone to try something else.
After some monumental bust-offs on big fish in tight creeks, I was the only one left with any 17A green bombers, and could have auctioned them off for a fortune.
We also ventured offshore to a nearby reef system when the barra went quiet and had an incredible session; I lost count of how many metre-plus queenies I caught on fly, and I also sight-cast a big golden trevally from underneath some eagle rays. Triple hook-ups were the norm, and along with queenies we caught brassy and golden trevally, broad and narrow barred mackerel, longtails, jacks and goldies.
If you’re keen to do some run-off fishing I’d get among it now as the water is dropping rapidly and all but the most extensive catchment-fed creeks have now dried up.
If you’re keen on bluewater, now’s the time and we should see the sails turning up in numbers by this weekend.
Catch ya on the water.
