I HEADED out on Anzac Day with good mates Mario Faggion and Brian and we had what can only be described as an epic day of estuary, offshore and demersal (reef) fishing.
As the sun peeked over the horizon I stopped at a favourite rock bar just as the tide started to gently push in.
We had an absolute ball on pint-sized queenies and brassy trevally, using flies and surface stickbaits.
We then pushed into a nearby flats and creek system, casting small shallow divers, lightly weighted soft plastics and flies.
Hook-ups came quickly on healthy barra and threadies, which put up great fights in the shallow water on light gear. Once the tide had filled in the bite switched off, and we ventured to some mangrove-lined reef edges to sight cast to small jacks using zerek prawns.
The day glassed off, so on a whim we headed wide to some offshore marks I’d been given, and soon we were into some big goldies and trout.
Schools of longies, macks and big queenies started working and we high-fived as we laughed and triple hooked up. Lest we forget.
