Will it happen again this weekend?

Will it happen again this weekend?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past month, you would have heard about the insane big barra fishing experienced at the mouth of the Mary River system.

With a month of dropping water levels, it’s been early season run-off at its very best. I’m sure many anglers are keenly eyeing off this weekend’s neap tides and wondering if the metrey chaos will repeat itself.

This neap tide phase is even smaller than the last set so we should see long windows of good fishing and ideal water quality. The last neap tides saw the fish travelling well upstream with the incoming push, and switched-on anglers will be monitoring their sounders to see if this happens again.

The weather gods may not be smiling, however, as this week’s monsoonal low gives way to an even deeper trough predicted to push through on Sunday; the plummeting barometer and rising water levels might switch the big girls off.

If you never go, you’ll never know and I’m sure many will be trying their luck for that elusive metre-plus trophy.

The Daly is continuing to fish well so may provide another option, and Darwin Harbour has been fishing well and may also be worth a crack this weekend for those not willing to put up with the big crowds at Shady Camp. Tight lines, and catch ya on the water.
