NT POLICE Commissioner Jamie Chalker has warned Territorians “not to be a clown” this weekend as COVID-19 restrictions are lifted on pubs and restaurants.
Mr Chalker said people found to be flouting the rules risk reversing the progress that has been made in returning to the “new normal.”

“But, if you are going to disregard messages, we are going to take sanction.
“It is futile that we would allow people to risk it.”
Police will be returning to “full scale” random breath testing procedures from this weekend and into the future.
“We’ll be out with high visibility at the forefront of our mind,” Mr Chalker said.
“From now on, that will be a permanent reinstatement.”
Mr Chalker said there would also be a police presence at Litchfield National Park this weekend, following the news that NT Parks and Wildlife rangers were abused and ignored by people flouting COVID-19 restrictions on the weekend.
“We want Litchfield to be somewhere people want to bring their kids,” he said.

In answering questions about the riot at the Darwin Correctional Precinct that saw 21 inmates climb onto the roofs of cell blocks and refuse to come down, Mr Chalker commended the work of corrections.
“It was a very serious incident, there were fires that were created,” he said.
“People had armed themselves to do, we don’t know yet.”
The riot is now the subject of a major crime investigation.
