THE man commentating Australian’s favourite croc video, “Run, Daniel, Run!”, has said he was both trying to save his mate from the croc and, of course, the barra.
Darwin’s Dac Craig had been well known in Australia for a few days after a video surfaced of him fishing with his mate Daniel Luttig at an NT waterhole with him guiding his mate — first in catching a barra, and then how to run from a croc.
“Daniel on a donkey,” he says as Daniel hooks a large barra.
As Daniel moves up the bank his mate gives him soothing encouragement to bring the fish in.
“Yes. Yes Daniel. Quick. Quick bro the big f**ker’s on it,” he says as he sees the large saltie.
“Oh Daniel. Run bro. Run back. Run back bro. Run back bro. Run back!
“Oi run bro! Run! Run! Run! Run! Run! Run! Run! Run Daniel, run! Run! Run! Run Daniel! “Run! Run! Run! Run bro!”
His face in now recognisable after appearing on Chanel Ten’s The Project on Tuesday night.
Host Waleed Aly asked him: “Be honest, on a scale of one to 10, how scared were you?
“I don’t know, I was probably more scared for Daniel’s fish,” Dac said.

“Um, I mean, you know, with respect obviously with a crocodile racing towards us, I was pretty gutted when he grabbed Daniel’s fish.”
Peter Helliar interjected at this point.
“Okay, Dac but this is a crocodile. And as my mother used to tell me after many, many sad dates, ‘There’s plenty more fish in the sea’. So why weren’t you worried more about the crocodile?”
“There was still plenty of worrying about the crocodile mate, let me tell you,” Dac said.
“We weren’t, I guess negligent or anything like that. We definitely understand that they are a wild animal and definitely they can do some damage.
“We stayed, you know, a safe distance back from it.”
Hilliar counted: “Sounds like all your research was covered. I’m glad Dac. What were you doing in croc-infested waters in the first place?”
“Ah mate, that’s pretty well any body of water in the Top End mate. You know, there can be a crocodile almost anywhere. From the city to out bush, it doesn’t really matter. It doesn’t really matter if you’re in a boat or on the bank, they are there.”
Fifi Box then asked him about the escape.
“Once it (the croc) actually had the fish it was pretty content to just sit there and wallow. It wasn't too active after that. I mean, you know, we erred on the side of caution and there was a tree that we sort of held up in for a little while just to make sure all the action was definitely over.”
Aly then asked to clarify if the “run, run, run,” was about advising Daniel about how to get the fish or to save him from the crocodile.
“Mate, a bit of both. He (Daniel) was already pretty quick to move away so, it was in a large part for the fish,” Dac said.
“We really wanted to size up that capture without the crocodile involved. But unfortunately we’re in their domain mate and it wanted it more than we did. So it was welcome to have it.”
