THINGS got a little nutty at Crocosaurus Cove, when a tourist swimming with the salties inadvertently put on a show of his own.

Cameron De Jong was visiting Darwin with his uncle John Rutherford at the weekend when he decided to surprise him with a visit to the popular tourist attraction. But the real shock would be reserved for those looking on.

“He was up here helping me with some stuff and I thought as a surprise I’d take him there and put him in a cage,” Mr De Jong said.

“I got out the phone to get some photos and he started kicking his legs and I could see his bloody nuts.”

Mr De Jong said he tried to get a message to his uncle from outside the tank but when that didn’t work he decided to keep snapping away, knowing his uncle would see the funny side.

“I sort of pointed down to him but he didn’t know what I was saying,” he said.

“I thought I’ll just take the photos, he’ll get a kick out of it, he’s a bit of a joker.”

But if Mr De Jong was surprised at copping an eyeful from his uncle, it was another unsuspecting patron who was really stunned.

Mr De Jong said he didn’t raise the alarm as it was a fairly quiet day at the Cove, but he couldn’t prevent one lady from getting more of a show than she’d bargained for.

“She walked up and she had a little girl with her and she said ‘Hey come and look at the big croc and that man in the cage’ and I thought ‘Do I quickly say I probably wouldn’t come over here?’,” he said.

“His belly was right up against the glass and then the croc moved its tail and made my uncle a bit more visible in the cage.

“I could pick the moment she saw them because she said ‘Oh darling, let’s go look at a different croc’.”

Mr De Jong said Mr Rutherford was able to see the funny side of the situation when he was finally able to let him know and wouldn’t forget his trip to the Top End in a hurry.

“I thought ‘I’ve gotta show him because he wants to see (the photos) and we couldn’t stop laughing,” he said.

“I think he’s glad he did it now because he’s got some memorable photos.”
