Police have questioned the partner of a beloved marketing executive who died from “catastrophic” injuries after running through a glass sliding door.

Emergency services were called to the Sydney home of Claire Austin early on Saturday morning after a concerned neighbour reported shouting and banging.

Paramedics found the 38-year-old bleeding profusely and with a partially severed arm after she tried to crash through a glass sliding door at the Randwick unit.

She was rushed to St Vincent’s Hospital in a critical condition and spent three days in a coma, before succumbing to her “severe” injuries yesterday.

Lee Loughlin, Ms Austin’s boyfriend, was questioned by police at the scene on Saturday.

Police will allege Mr Loughlin told investigators the couple had had an argument before the incident.

According to a report in The Daily Telegraph, Mr Loughlin was admitted to a mental health unit.

Lee Loughlin was taken from the scene by police to Maroubra Station but later released without charge.

New South Wales Police submitted an apprehended violence order against Mr Loughlin on Ms Austin’s behalf, and it was due to be heard at Waverley Local Court tomorrow.

Strike Force Lydoch has been established to investigate Ms Austin’s horrific death. A police spokesperson said: “No arrests have been made at this time.”

Mr Loughlin is a 44-year-old recruitment consultant who has lived in Sydney for 12 years after emigrating from Britain.

He co-founded the company Lead Group but at some point in recent days, his profile has been removed from its website. He also co-founded tech start-up Vidaura – a video interview platform – but Mr Loughlin’s presence on that site has also vanished.

While Ms Austin and Mr Loughlin had been in a romantic relationship, a friend told The Daily Telegraph she had been preparing to move to Queensland.

The marketing executive was born in Britain but had lived in Australia for the past decade.

Loved ones rushed from the United Kingdom to Sydney after receiving a devastating call from doctors on Saturday about the “catastrophic” extent of her injuries.

They reportedly arrived just hours before she died.

A friend told The Daily Telegraph: “We are all absolutely in shock … our beautiful, beautiful Claire. The light of our lives, our fun, happy, beautiful Claire.”

Ms Austin worked for a number of companies since landing Down Under, including the acclaimed event SXSW Sydney.

She most recently worked with award-winning agency The Misfits.

Police are asking anyone with information about the death to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
