IT wasn’t all fine frocks and sharp suits at Monday’s Darwin Cup Day, with plenty of weird and wild fashion also standing out in the crowd.
One of the standout racegoers trackside was Brit Andy Page, who was hard to miss in a shirt plastered with the VB logo that perfectly matched the VB can in his hand and VB tattoo on his leg.
He said he wanted to celebrate his favourite beer, which was making his day out at Cup Day even sweeter.
“I can’t get enough of it – it’s a crowd-pleaser,” he said.
“It’s kind of like Stella back at home in England – it gets you really hammered, but you wake up and you don’t have a headache, and it’s really good.
“VB is getting me into it today, I’m feeling it.
“I haven’t had any breakfast, I haven’t had any eggs, chips or beans – all I’ve had is seven VBs. I’m ready for it.”
Decked out in identical bright pink hats and Hawaiian shirts, Adelaide man Peter Hutton, his wife and three friends also made for an eye-catching sight trackside.
He said they were embracing Darwin’s tropical holiday atmosphere after escaping the “miserable” weather down south.
“My wife was the instigator – she thought it would be good if we came up in a group and looked all the same,” he said.
“We’ve stood out a bit and got a lot of good comments, so it’s fantastic.”
Friends Tom Walton and Sam Woody also stood out trackside in eye-poppingly bright tropical-themed shirts.
