'Cheeky’ Valentine’s Day sign shocks supermarket shoppers

"I'm sorry... WHAT?!"

Accidentally x-rated toys

Flowers and chocolates are what most would expect to receive on Valentine's Day. But what would you do if you got a bunch of continental cucumbers?

Actually, don't answer that. This is a parenting website.

But just imagine being a parent navigating your way through the supermarket with kids on the most romantic day of the year only to see a sign that says the long vegetable with impressive girth is "ideal" for a Valentine's gift?

"Why are they saying cucumbers are a good present for someone you love mummy?"

GOOD LUCK navigating that question! And in case I'm not being entirely clear here, they are not saying it's for tonight's Greek salad!

Forget chocolates and roses. How about a... cucumber?

You still with me? Phiew. Now let me explain.

UK supermarket giant Tesco has come under fire after a shopper spotted a sign displayed under a tray of continental cucumbers claiming that they were 'Ideal for Valentine's Day".

The image has blown up on X (formerly Twitter) with people both shocked and amused by the placement.

"Tesco I hope you mean for cooking a Valentine's meal?" one person wrote.

"I am struggling to find recipes for things to cook which contain cucumber to back up your claim that these are ideal for Valentine's Day. Can you please help?" another joked.

Is this a joke?

According to Daily Star, the sign (which appears to be a few years old and finding fame again online) may have been placed in front of the salad favourite as a joke from one of the staff members or another shopper.

Signs with the same Valentine's Day approval were scattered around the store on items that were deemed as nice present ideas for loved ones but they managed to find themselves housed with other cheeky items such as the cucumbers and condoms.

A good laugh or too far do you think?
