CASUARINA residents have reason to celebrate after Darwin Council splashed $100,000 on the pool’s redevelopment masterplan last week.
The plans are expected to include both a wet and dry play area for children, increased shading, picnic and barbecue facilities and exercise equipment.
Alderman for Richardson Ward Rebecca Want de Rowe said the facility was overdue for an facelift.
“I actually learnt to swim at Casuarina pool 30 years ago, and in that time, the pool hasn’t seen many, if any, upgrades,” she said.
“Currently we’ve got a playground that is embarrassing, and I’d love to see that we can turn it into something amazing.”
The Darwin mother of two said the redevelopment of the Casuarina pool could help revitalise a community atmosphere in the local neighbourhood.
“Casuarina pool is used quite well for Christmas parties and for birthday parties, but what we need to do is actually upgrade the infrastructure in there to encourage more of that,” she said.
“I’d love to see some exercise equipment there or even a space where foodstalls can go up.
“That way we could have night markets or night entertainment.”
The Parap pool also underwent upgrades, which were completed earlier this year.
Nightcliff’s swimming pool facilities were redeveloped in 2016.
