TERRITORIANS love an ice cold beer on warm, humid afternoons.
A Japanese invention is about to revolutionise the afternoon beverage, turning a stock standard beer into a refreshing beer slushie.
Deck Bar General Manager Michael Marsh said in two weeks thirsty Territorians could order beer slushies at his bar.
“I think it will sell very well,” Mr Mash said.
“We have that kind of patronage — willing to take a risk with their drinks.”
Mr Marsh said he tried frozen beer while on holiday in Cambodia and described the beverage as a “delicious luxury”.
John Johnson runs Get Slushed, a NT-based frozen cocktail hire company.
Mr Johnson said he would “definitely” be keen to stock beer slushie machines.
Kirin Ichiban’s Frozen Beer Slushie Machine allows the thirsty beer drinker to tip their favourite beer into the machine, wait, then pour out a frozen drink.
A frozen “head” caps off the beer, insulating the drink and keeping the slushie frozen for as long as the Darwin sun will allow.
One Mile Brewery co-owner Stuart Brown said he found the idea “interesting”.
“I don’t know if it would take off, it might be a bit of a novelty,” Mr Brown said.
OzBrew Millner manager David Nguyen said he had not heard about the invention and was not looking at stocking the product any time soon.
“I would try it — if it’s nice,” Mr Nguyen said.
The beer slushie machine can be ordered on japantrendshop.com and costs $98 US.
Delivery to the Top End will cost nearly as much as the machine itself and, unfortunately, instructions are in Japanese.
