“Does this not look like a dried pea?”
TikTok creator Nia has taken to the app to share her revelation about Harvest Snaps Baked Pea Crisps.
“I’m about to be called the dumbest woman alive, but it’s fine, I’ve been called that before,” she said.
“These yummy snacks I’ve been eating for years, these gorgeous green bean pea goodness. It wasn’t until last year that I found out these aren’t dehydrated peas. They’re just shaped as peas.”
Comparing the snack to the packaging, Nia said there was no way she could have been alone in her thinking.
“Like, come on. Is that not an indication that it's a dried pea?” she said, showing the snack’s packaging.

“I’m now shook”
And, the commenters proved her right, with many saying they thought they were dehydrated peas, too.
“I swear they were marketed as dehydrated peas when they first came out,” one person said.
“I consider myself to be relatively intelligent, and I too just thought they were dehydrated peas for soooo long,” said another.
“Wait… are they not? I totally thought so too!” a third confessed.
“I honestly just assumed the same also… I’m now shook,” another person said.
Some were concerned the snack didn’t have peas in it at all - or perhaps wasn’t quite as healthy as they thought.
“HUH I thought I was eating VEGETABLES,” one commenter said.
“But the first ingredient says green peas, so I’m gonna keep telling myself it counts as a vegetable lol,” another stated.
So… how are they made?
The debate led Nia to make a follow-up video, detailing just how they really made the tasty snack, with peas instead ground up and reformed back into a pea shape (with other flavourings and ingredients) rather than just dehydrated. Harvest Snaps Baked Pea Crisps are made with a whopping 68% green peas.
And, in the comments, Harvest Snaps themselves confirmed the rumour, whilst also assuring snackers that they do in fact still contain plenty of veggies.
“Happy to share the process of how we make our snacks!” they said.
“We start with whole green peas (we mill it in-house), then we form them into fun pod shapes and bake it for the perfect crunch!
“You’ll find that veggies are listed as our very 1st ingredient.”
In a comment to Kidspot, Calbee Australia confirmed this - and debunked the rumours.
“Harvest Snaps are proudly made with green peas, which are milled in-house and then shaped into pods before being baked — not fried — for a crunchy, better for you snack," a spokesperson said.
"We have never claimed these are dehydrated peas, and our packaging clearly outlines the ingredients and nutritional profile. We believe in making better-for-you snacks that are both fun and transparent, and we encourage consumers to read labels and enjoy a wide range of veggie options.”
