Country rocker Kid Rock tried his luck with a BBC journalist during a live TV inauguration Day interview overnight, shamelessly flirting with her despite admitting he couldn’t actually see her during their live cross.
In incredibly awkward scenes from the interview that have gone viral online, BBC news presenter Caitriona Perry could be seen repeatedly batting away the music star’s flirtatious advances.
Rock was being interviewed about his performance at a pre-Inauguration concert and his ongoing support for President Donald Trump, but turned the tables and asked his interviewer: “What about you? What are you doing? Where you at?”
Perry, reporting live from Washington D.C., laughed and told the rocker she was “standing on a rooftop in very chilly conditions … I’ll be on air for 11 or 12 hours, so I don’t think I’ll have anywhere near as fun a day as you have planned for yourself.”
Puffing on a cigar, Kid Rock persisted, telling his interviewer: “I can’t see you right now, so I don’t know what you look like.”
Perry explained that she looked like she was “ready to hit the slopes” in “full ski gear” to combat the cold in Washington.
“I love to go skiing,” Rock shot back. “You sound sexy – you want to go with me?”
Perry seemed ready to wrap up the interview by this point.
“Well, we won’t get into that right here! We’re doing no skiing here, we’ve got a day of broadcasting to do, but Kid Rock, thank you so much for joining us here at BBC news, enjoy your day …”
End of interview.
Another BBC employee who shared the cringe-worthy clip on social media called it “some of the most awkward television you’ll see this year.” Others praised Perry for how she’d handled the awkward encounter.
One celebrity who did perform for President Trump’s inauguration today might now be wishing she stayed home like Kid Rock.
Country singer Carrie Underwood’s performance was beset by technical difficulties, forcing the former American Idol winner to perform her song a cappella after it became clear her backing track wasn’t going to start any time soon.
Underwood is one of several musical acts who’ve performed during President Trump’s inauguration celebrations. In bizarre scenes, retro disco act the Village People took to the stage at a Trump rally yesterday to perform their signature hit YMCA, with the incoming President staying on stage during the song to perform his much-memed “Trump dance” along to a song that had been an inescapable fixture of his 2024 Presidential campaign.
