A big wheel is turning up the fun at Darwin’s Stokes Hill Wharf, as the Skyline Ferris Wheel and mini golf entertainment precinct opens for its third year.
Tweed Heads couple Harry and Nicole Theodore, and grandkids Hudson, 7, Emerson, 9, and Kaeleigh Mitchell, 10, were looking forward to a spin on the wheel during their action-packed holiday in the Top End.
“It’ll be great to be up the top and see all those views,” Mr Theodore said.
“We’re loving Darwin, it’s a great place to be.”
The 35m ferris wheel opened Saturday and offers 360-degree views of Darwin’s harbour and skyline.
Along with a nine-hole Australiana themed minigolf, the precinct also hosts a pop-up pizza bar and events including musical bingo, comedy nights and live music.
Skyline Attractions’ Jane Jones said the new events offerings hoped to “crank things up a notch” and “really make Stokes Hill Wharf an entertainment destination”.
Member for Port Darwin, Paul Kirby was thrilled to see the return of the ferris wheel to the Waterfront.
“More than 50,000 people – both locals and tourists – were able to experience this fantastic attraction last season and so many are keen to enjoy the ride and view once again,” he said.
“Having attractions and experiences that bring more people into the City is great for our local businesses.
“The ferris wheel delivers vibrancy and activity at the wharf that spills over to restaurants, cafes and other retailers throughout the CBD.”
The Skyline Precinct runs until October 8 from 10am to 10pm daily.
