It’s your guide to all the best family fun on offer at the 2024 Darwin Festival.

Teddy Bears Picnic: Sunday, August 11, 9am at the Darwin Esplanade

The big day out for our littlest art lovers is back! One of the longest-running Darwin Festival events – everyone is invited to bring their favourite teddy bear and the whole family to The Esplanade for a free fun day like no other.

One of the highlight activities is the well-acclaimed interactive art experience I See You Like This, which turns the camera around and invites children to create an art portrait directly to their parents’ face! Running all morning from 9am-12pm.

There will also be party games in a bubble-filled children’s disco to the backing of a blend of kid-friendly tunes, and tea parties, teddy bear hospital, free fruit, a live radio broadcast and of course, big Ted.

Free event.

I Wish …: Tuesday, August 13, 6pm at the Darwin Entertainment Centre

An exciting collaboration between Patch Theatre and Gravity and Other Myths, designed especially for four to eight-year-olds and their families.

I Wish … invites you to enter a world of colour and creativity as performers imagine all the things they could be – from an astronaut to a unicorn and everything in between.

While exploring their feelings and differences on stage, they reveal the magic of individuality.

Featuring gravity-defying acrobatics, stunning visuals, and playful humour, I Wish… is an unforgettable live performance experience.

Tickets available online and at the box office, $25 to $34.

Whale’s Tale: Wednesday, August 14 to Sunday, August 18 at MAGNT

The Whale’s Tale is a highly interactive spectacle full of slapstick, clowning and a nine-metre whale puppet that can swallow you whole!

It’s also an environmental story to warm the heart and inspire kids to play their part in caring for the planet and the animals we share it with.

It’s been forecast that by 2050 there will be more plastic in the sea than fish.

The Whale’s Tale is a timely adventure that will give you a belly laugh and leave everyone in attendance wanting to make a difference.

Tickets available online and at the box office, $25 to $32,

Palmerston Family Fiesta: Friday, August 16, 5pm at Goyder Square

As part of a packed weekend of family-friendly fun, entertaining performances, roving artists, market stalls, food, music, laughs and more in Palmerston, it’s a free Friday night’s entertainment.

Little Murmur: Saturday, August 17 to Monday, August 19 at the Darwin Entertainment Centre

Go on a journey with UK dancer Aakash Odedra.

Diagnosed with dyslexia at a young age, Aakash found school a challenge.

He spelt his name wrong until he was 21 and it wasn’t until he “found the missing A” that he felt he belonged.

Defined by his learning difficulties, not his abilities, dance became his mode of expression.

Combining visual design and technology with dance and humour, Little Murmur explores the warped and exaggerated realities of living in a world you struggle to process, great for school kids.

Tickets available online and through DEC, $40 to $44.

Proudfoot & Friends: Friday August 23 to Saturday, August 24 at the INPEX Sunset Stage

Get ready for a foot-stomping, rib-tickling, toe-tapping time at the Proudfoot & Friends stage show spectacular!

Run by award-winning children’s performer Lucas Proudfoot, the comedy-musical features choreographed animated projections that delight and captivate little ones (and big ones!) as Lucas leads them on a hilarious interactive singalong adventure.

Tickets available online and at the box office, $25 to $34.
