Veteran Aussie actor Gerard Kennedy has died aged 93.
The double Gold Logie award-winner’s death was confirmed on Thursday morning, prompting an outpouring of tributes from friends and family.
Among them was actor Liz Burch — Kennedy’s co-star on The Flying Doctors who shared a heartfelt message on Facebook, “Vale Gerard Kennedy, a lovely man.”
Kennedy’s career spanned more than five decades, leaving a lasting mark on Australian film and television.
He rose to fame in the 1960s as espionage agent Kragg in the popular spy drama Hunter.
His breakout performance quickly led to his most iconic role as Detective Frank Banner in Division 4 — a part that earned him consecutive Gold Logies for Most Popular Personality on Australian Television.
Beyond series, Kennedy’s talents extended to the big screen, with appearances in various films with standout roles in Wolf Creek 2 and Fat Tony Co.
Kennedy was also the son of late Australian actor and writer Phyllis Ophel.
Tributes have now poured in from fans, many of whom have shared heartfelt memories and expressed admiration for the former actor.
“Gerard Kennedy — a remarkable Australian actor whose passing marks the end of an era. He gave us so many unforgettable moments growing up. Rest in peace, great man and thank you for everything,” wrote a Facebook user on a tribute post.
“He was a major part of me growing up in Australia with TV. Rest easy and thank you mate,” another wrote.
“Great memories of him. RIP Gerard, thank you for your entertainment.”
