TH E HEART of Darwin’s drama scene is having a busy couple of days, with Corrugated Iron Youth Arts presenting two classic works over three days at Brown’s Mart Theatre.

George Orwell’s seminal work Animal Farm and William Shakespeare’s early comedy Love’s Labour’s Los t will both be on stage from Friday December 7 till Sunday December 9.

The cast of both productions includes a wide range of artists including those in training, early career artists as well as creative professionals.

Tony Rive is the director for Love’s Labour’s Los t in Darwin and said the Shakespearean performance is all about the simple things in life.

“It’s about what every person faces when it comes to love, the turmoil between the mind and the heart,” he said.

“Everyone always tries to uncover the meaning behind love and to pinpoint the ideas behind it but this play will show you that in the end it’s just about how you feel. Love is worth waiting for and pursuing.”

Animal Farm director Kate Kelly said she had set this Darwin rendition of the play in a time and place that audiences could relate to.

“The play touches on current political themes in Australia. It is dark, edgy and thought provoking,” she said.

“The performance is highly physical and the ensemble are playing multiple characters helped by the use of masks and physical theatre practitioners who’ve come on board.”

Performances of Animal Farm will be on Friday at 7pm and Saturday and Sunday from 1pm. Love’s Labour’s Lost is on Saturday at 6pm and Sunday at 4pm. Tickets are available through trybooking.com/ZAIY

Those who buy tickets to one show online get a 33 per cent discount for the other show.

Corrugated Iron has been facilitating youth arts in the Top End for more than 30 years and provides ongoing support to young artists through mentoring, skills development and training.
