Keeping children from remote communities in school and giving them a source of entertainment, activity and pride has been a big part of Shellie Morris’ music.
“I’ve worked in remote communities encouraging attendance through music and encouraging them to have a voice through song,” she said.

“Music is one of the best tools in the Northern Territory to encourage school attendance. Studies have shown it helps with learning, self esteem, pride and self determination.”
She hopes her performance at Darwin Festival would help inspire young Territorians to embrace music.
