TWO Territory queens will battle it out this Saturday for the Dragnation NT final.

The event will determine which diva will represent the NT at the national grand final in NSW in February next year.

Drag Territory will crown their next ambassador after a fierce showdown at the Railway Club on October 20 from 7pm, with Tina Mor-Cok and Miss Ferocia performing for their chance to win the $5000 prize.

Teddy Suphannabutt, who performs as Tina Mor-Cok, said the competition had pulled in more attention this year with a larger prize for the winner.

“Every drag queen in this country knows about it,” she said. “But it’s not just the money, I also want to see what other drag queens around Australia are like — that is, if I get to represent the NT.”

Ms Suphannabutt said she had been doing drag in Darwin for the last seven or eight years and had built a strong fan base.

“I feel like because Darwin is such a small town I have such a strong and incredible fan base that come and see me every week,” she said.

“Every time I go to events I see the same faces, it is more like a family in Darwin.”

Ricky Borg, also known as Miss Ferocia, said his first time in drag was actually for last year’s competition.

“I thought, what a great opportunity to try it out,” he said.

“I didn’t make it through to the national final but after that I just couldn’t get out of it. With the assistance of Vogue, we’ve been doing a lot of performances. I’ve got new goals now.”

Mr Borg said the Dragnation competition provided a platform for local queens to get on-board with something a bit bigger.

“It provides an opportunity for someone to go down south and be immersed in that inspiration,” he said.

“Donna DuTchme, she put us on the map a few years back when she won Dragnation. I’d like to continue that and show Australia what us queens here in the NT are all about.”

The evening’s judges were announced yesterday as Aunty Shazza, Mr Shalom Kah, Dr Belinda, Aunt Daisy, Maria Koko and Tarzan Jungle Queen.
