The Project shares shock update on social media five months after TV axing: ‘Still alive’
Five months after Network 10 pulled the plug, The Project’s social media accounts have sparked excitement with a surprise announcement.
The Project has made a shock announcement on social media that has fans of the cancelled show excited.
Five months after the news program’s shock axing, its official Instagram account has revealed it is making a comeback – albeit through social media clips. Talk about news being delivered differently, indeed.
The program, which was ditched back in June to make way for 10News+, took to its Instagram and Facebook on Sunday to reveal that it is “still alive” and kicking with “new faces” set to tackle “life’s big mysteries” in a series of social media videos.
“It’s been a minute, but yes, I’m still alive,” the post began. “We’ve changed the password, and thanks to your support, I’ve roped in some new mates to help make sense of the madness we call news.”
The post then announced some new online content is set to be released on its social media in the coming days.
“Starting tonight, you’ll also see some new faces tackling life’s big mysteries! First up, it’s Melbourne comedian Louis Hanson with a festive question for us all, that’s dividing households.”
“And again, thank you for sticking around. We appreciate it more than you’ll ever know.”
The first “new face” off the bat is comedian Hanson, who discusses the all important debate “that tears families apart every year” ahead of the Christmas season.
In a clip with a familiar tone and sound to the segments we saw on The Project, Hanson then examines the debate about the right time to put up the Christmas tree, much to the delight of fans.
“oh this is great! and Louis is the best!!!” one fan commented on Instagram.
“I miss the project so much. Loved my daily news and connection to the world. Glad this channel is keeping it alive x,” another wrote.
“Come back to TV !!! I refuse to watch CH 10 in your timeslot in protest!!!” yet another commented
“Should be interesting? I can’t wait to see what you bring to the table?” one encouraged, as another echoed, “Glad to see you back, team.”
This is not the first time The Project’s social media pages have made headlines.
Days after the program was axed by Network Ten in June after 26 years on air, the clever cookie behind its official Instagram account hilariously went rogue.
“The bosses really should have changed the password from Password1,” read a post shared on the account at the time.
In the accompanying caption, the poster taunted: “Well, well, well, look who is in charge now … It’s me! The social media hero (that’s what I call myself). So, one question: what should I do with these accounts?”
The “social media hero” then proceeded to share six entertaining posts that left fans and even former Project personalities in fits of laughter.
“I am SO HERE FOR THIS!!” former co-host Lisa Wilkinson wrote in the comments section of one posts in fits of laughter.
“I just assumed the news stopped when we did,” commented former guest star Rove McManus, who co-owns the production company Roving Enterprises which produced The Project.
Meanwhile, former panellists Gorgi Coghlan and Georgia Love left popcorn and laughing emojis on some posts.
In one clip, the rogue employee shared a video of a woman being knocked off her feet during the “bomb cyclone” that roared through the NSW coast at the time.
“I have nobody to share the silly news I see from around the world with. Shall I just post the things that interest/make me laugh anyway?” read another post, before the anonymous poster shared a video of a woman being knocked off her feet by strong winds.
While the account has continued to remain active over the past few months by sharing snippets of news making headlines around the globe, the video shared overnight featuring Hanson is the first clip posted that is fronted by a known Aussie personality.
