The Real Housewives of Sydney is set to return to screens for Season 3 with more catfights, confrontations, chaos and couture. Throw in a glamorous new housewife, who is more than just a pretty face, and it’s gearing up to be the most unmissable season yet.

Life-sized Barbie Martine Chippendale from Sydney’s posh Darling Point joins Season three alongside the existing castmates: former Miss Australia Nicole O’Neil, media personality Sally Obermeder, fashionista Victoria Montano, ex-models Krissy Marsh and Caroline Gaultier, vet Dr Kate Adams, and shoe designer and retired WAG Terry Biviano.

News.com.au caught up with the stylish Martine ahead of the RHOS Season 3 premiere on BINGE on February 25 – and it’s clear she is a forc to be reckoned with.

Happily married to a retired banker who is 19 years older than her, Martine left her corporate career in HR to embrace family life and devote her time to their two young children.

With brains – she has a psychology degree – beauty and style, Martine can certainly hold her own among the group.

“This season I was the only new cast member. That meant I had a very steep learning curve and really had to hit the ground running in terms of understanding the history and dynamics within the group,” she tells us.

“Was I welcomed to the group? Yes. I understand that there was probably some natural caution from some people about me joining the cast, but I think that quickly dissipated, and I really felt that everyone did welcome me.”

Although Martine – who happens to be the neighbour of returning housewife Victoria – was welcomed by the other ladies, she was still not prepared for some of the events and conversations that transpired during filming.

“The best part, I think, is that it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience to be a cast member on a show like this. There are so many moments of pure comedy, and the laughter during some of those moments was truly fantastic,” she says.

“The worst part would probably be the disappointment I felt at much of the casual cruelty that was demonstrated. I just think, ‘Yeah, that was disappointing.’”

But Martine said she proudly stayed high above the drama.

“There’s a lot of conflict – far more than in my real life,” she reveals ahead of the premiere.

“In terms of handling it, I believe that calmness is my superpower. In any conflict I’m involved in, I choose to respond with facts and intellect. I stay on topic and don’t go low. Another major component is that during a conflict, I make an effort to listen as much as I speak.”

But for the newcomer, that’s where the beauty lies in the series: among the different personalities in the cast.

“I think the beauty of this cast is that there are so many different personalities, and that’s great because it means there’s someone for everyone,” she says. “All the viewers of this show will find someone they relate to or elements of different personalities they connect with.”

“I think that’s what makes it great. Everyone has their own unique and different personality, and that’s a great recipe and combination for making a fantastic TV show.”

Martine reveals she watched the last season of RHOS and thought it was “great and exciting” and, like many viewers, she was “left wanting more”. Being on the show after watching as a fan worked to her advantage as she could deliver what the viewers want.

“I don’t think anything was missing last season. But in terms of what I bring, I think I embody what people love about the franchise. I love beautiful things, I love my husband, and I am a devoted mother,” she says.

“I’m a meticulous and gracious hostess. I’m really a girls’ girl, and I think that’s combined with a real inner calm and level-headedness that has been really helpful for me during this season. I had a previous career working in corporate, and that experience has helped me navigate this alongside my natural personality.”
