MasterChef viewers all make the same complaint about the show’s premiere: ‘This is exhausting’

Viewers all had the same complaint about this year’s action-packed premiere.

Jamie Oliver will ba a guest judge on the new season of MasterChef Australia

MasterChef Australia returned to Channel 10 and 10Play on Monday night, and while it proved to be a hit with viewers in many ways, there was one big complaint that left fans rushing to social media to vent their frustrations.

Viewers were introduced to a group of new MasterChef Australia contestants who are all battling it out for the whopping $250,000 prize.

As the contestants met for the first time, judge Andy Allen walked out to rapturous applause before he introduced this year’s remaining judges.

Poh Ling Yeow, Jean-Chrisotophe Novell and Sofia Levin all walked out to screaming and shouting from the contestants, and writer-turned-judge Levin seemingly couldn’t contain her overwhelming excitement either as she too joined in the celebrations.

The group then reached fever pitch when, after much teasing, guest judge Jamie Oliver walked into the room only to be greeted by yet more yelling and crying both from the contestants and some the other judges.

All the excitement sadly proved a little much for a flurry of viewers, many of whom rushed to social media to poke fun at how “over the top” the scene was, with someone questioning why everyone was “acting like they’re on MasterChef US”.

One viewer joked: “Did they lace these people’s drinks with Ecstasy before filming? The reactions are just a bit over the top. Bah, humbug!” while a second agreed, tweeting: “Genuinely think some of these contestants are having seizures!”

Another moaned that the “energy in the room is exhausting,” with a fourth complaining: “So much screaming, unpleasant to watch!” and a fifth echoing the sentiment, adding: “The judges have had a few very strong espressos.”

The whole scene became too much for others, with one admitting they had been “turned off” the new line-up over the feverish behaviour, ranting: “The screaming and dramatic laughing is already putting me off these ‘new’ judges.”

While the new line-up has proven to be divisive during the first premiere, others felt as though they were doing the job perfectly.

“Loving the dynamic of the new judges,” said one viewer, before going on to hit out at the behaviour of the contestants: “But there’s already a few contestants I’m finding grating already”.

However, despite the complaints, many shared their love for new judge Poh, who as expected went down a treat with viewers.

“Poh just gone straight in and taken charge. Loves it,” gushed one viewer, while another tweeted: “Can’t get enough of Poh!!”.

Others raved about her judging style, remarking that she’s a breath of fresh air.

“I love Poh as a judge, she’s empathetic, articulate and funny,” said a viewer, with another adding: “Poh’s already my favourite judge”.

MasterChef Australia airs Monday through to Thursday at 7:30pm on 10.
